Sixth meeting of the expert group
The expert group for the Observatory on the Online Platform Economy met in Brussels on 29-30 January 2019 for its sixth meeting.
On 29 January, the expert group worked on questions of market power and online advertising. The morning session involved presentations from invited guests Philip Marsden (Bank of England) and Paul Belleflamme (UCLouvain), followed by discussion. In the afternoon, invited guests Stephen Adshead (Spark Ninety), Francesco Decarolis (Bocconi University) and Daniel Knapp gave presentations on different aspects of online advertising.
On 30 January, the expert group discussed internal reports on monitoring, data and differentiated treatment. The study team presented systematic literature reviews on online advertisement and market power as well as analytical papers on data in the platform economy and differentiated treatment. Further, the group deliberated on its next steps in view of finalising its work in the second half of 2020.
