Barbara Engels is an economist in the Structural Change and Competition research unit at the German Economic Institute (IW). She holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree of Science in Economics from Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany. Her research focusses on economic effects of digitalisation, with a particular focus on digital platforms. She has published numerous articles on topics such as digital platforms, cyber security, standards, data portability, and worked on several projects on the collaborative economy and digitalisation. Before joining the IW, she worked as a project manager at the German-Israeli Chamber of Commerce in Tel Aviv.
