About

The Observatory on the Online Platform Economy monitors the evolution of the online platform economy to advise and support the Commission in its policy making in relation to online platforms. The Observatory looks into current and emerging challenges and opportunities for the EU in the online economy and in online general search. It also monitors the implementation of the Regulation on promoting fairness and transparency for business users of online platforms (P2B Regulation).

The Observatory comprises a group of 15 independent experts and a dedicated team of Commission officials, supported in its work by the study ‘Support to the Observatory on the Online Platform Economy’.

The study is designed to assist the Observatory on the Online Platform Economy in the formulation and execution of a monitoring strategy for the platform economy. From 2019 until 2021, the study was carried out by PPMI (the lead partner), Open EvidenceRAND Europe and the German Economic Institute (IW). From 2021, the study will be undertaken  by Visionary Analytics (the lead partner), Kantar, and NTT DATA.
